There are not currently many training courses available for coaches to develop their skills. This is something that this association would like to improve. If we have more and higher standard training courses, this will be likely to improve the overall standard of chess playing in England
The current courses that we are aware of are as follows:
- Chess in Schools and Communities
This is a charity that offers curriculum lessons and after-school clubs in state schools. The training course can be viewed at www.chessinschools.co.uk/Pages/Events/Category/new-tutor-training-courses
- FIDE Training Courses
There are a number of training courses available at FIDE. These are as follows:
1) FIDE Senior Trainer
2) FIDE Trainer
3) FIDE Instructor
4) National Instructor
5) Developmental Instructor
The details requirements for these courses can be found at: handbook.fide.com/chapter/B07
Details of courses can be found at: trainers.fide.com/contacts
- European Chess Union ECU Chess Training Courses
Website is: www.europechess.org. There are a number of different types of courses available to new tutors. More details can be found via: edu.europechess.org/ecu-certified-teacher-training-courses
- English Chess Federation Registered Coaching Scheme
A new scheme with 4 tiered levels of coaching is about to be launched in 2021. The second phase of this project will hopefully include assessments in lessons, training courses and written tests. Details can be found via www.englishchess.org.uk/coaches-new
